THE DONGMEN TEMPLE

A temple is a building for people to ask some special things. It is very popular in China. But in my hometown there is one temple which is different to other ones. It is a special place for asking to have a child. It is the Dongmen Temple. When you get married, both parents-in-law hope to get a grandchild early. In some families, if you have got a son every one is happy. The parents can do everything for you. But if you have got a girl, the parents are unhappy. Because they think they haven't got a next generation. If you have been married for a long time and you haven’t got a child, the parents are worried for the same reason. So when you get married, some parents go to the temple to ask Bodhisallva to give them a son. Later if you get a son, they think it is Bodhisallva's grace, if not, they think the daughter-in-law is not good. They are not friendly and kind to her. So it is one reason for not having a good relationship between mother and daughter-in law. Fortunately this is changing now and it is a story of the past. Now some people from the country still think like this, but most city people are more aware of science and biology. For them the sex of the baby isn't important. If some young people really like a 'two persons’ life', they decide not to have a child. It is no problem.

If you are over 18 years old and you are an Australia citizen, you have to vote. This is your responsibility. Last Saturday morning early I went to my local polling booth to elect, but I couldn't do it, because they didn't find my name on the list.

There is a see-saw for children to play on

Do not go in the water-there are sharks today
No running allowed here
Do not go swimming
Big waves.
Do you know all the signs? I know them now, I didn't know them before doing this exercise.
Which ones are new to you? The big wave, do not go swimming here, and shark alarm.
Do we have all these signs in Sydney? No, we don't have crocodile signs because there are nno crocodiles in NSW! I think these signs are from Victoria.
Do they have all these signs in your country of origin? There are some signs that they are different because I ever have seen any shark and crocodile in my area in China.

my home town

Tianjin is my hometown.

It is situated is the northern parts of China. Tianjin is an old, big and industrial city. It's area is 11,920 square kilometres. It's population is about 10 million people. There are some famous universities such as Nankai University and the Tianjin university, which are old but fascinating.

There is a river in Tianjin. When summer comes some people like to swim in it. There is a new soccer stadium which will be used for the Olympics in 2008.

Food is delicious but isn't expensive. Some people who live in Beijing go there for lunch or dinner because it is very close to Beijing. There is a lot of beautiful snow in winter. Childern always made snowmen and had snowfights.
I love and miss my hometown.
